Mary Kittens10 things you need to know about the GoodGiving Guide Challenge

Start your engines! The GoodGiving Challenge starts Nov. 1, and we here at P.A.W.S are pumped to be participating for the second year in a row! We’ve been getting a lot of questions about what the Challenge is and how it works, so here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know:

1. It is ENTIRELY online! Donations are accepted only through our page on the GoodGiving site, You must use either a debit or credit card.

2. The Challenge is put together by the Bluegrass Community Foundation and Smiley Pete Publishing as a way to promote local non-profits who directly serve YOUR community.

3. In 2011 the Challenge raised over $200,000, and last year it raised over $586,000 for 68 Central Kentucky non-profits. This year 108 organizations are participating, and we’re expecting great things!

4. The minimum donation amount is $25.

5. You can give multiple times throughout the Challenge, to the same non-profit or as many as you would like.

6. If you are not comfortable giving our credit card info online, you can purchase a giving card from the Bluegrass Community Foundation using a form and redeem it online – just like a gift card! If this is how you want to donate, email me at and I’ll get you set up.

7. The Challenge runs from November 1 – December 31. There are incentive prizes for donors as well as the opportunities for the non-profits to compete against each other for cash prize! Every week a new contest in announced!

8. Contest #1: The first 10 non-profits to raise $7500 from at least 50 unique donors of $25 or more will win a $7500 matching grant! Last year this contest was won in less than 12 hours. That is why your support early on Nov. 1st is so important to us!

9. The money we raise during this Challenge goes directly to helping companion animals most in need of love and care! With your gift we can purchase medicine for sick dogs and cats, toys and blankets so the animals feel comfortable while they stay with us, and transports to the vet. Everything we do is to give the animals we care for a second chance in life. Please help our furry friends!

10. P.A.W.S will be sharing donor stories, thanking our supporters, giving Challenge updates, and making announcements frequently throughout the Challenge. Make sure you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and our website so that you won’t miss a thing!

There you have it! If you have questions or still need more information, call or email our Shelter Director Robin at 859-988-9800 or

With prizes for donors, matching grants for non-profits, and 108 participating non-profit organizations, this year’s Good Giving Guide Challenge is sure to be one for the record books.

Taking place Nov. 1st through Dec. 31st, the GoodGiving Guide Challenge is an online fundraising event organized by the Bluegrass Community Foundation.  The Challenge brings together 108 non-profits in Central Kentucky and is a great opportunity for non-profits like P.A.W.S to connect with our community, engage current and future donors, and raise funds vital to our missions. The success of the Challenge is unquestionable; $586,000 was raised for central Kentucky non-profit organizations in 2012.

In the spirit of friendly rivalry, the organizations also compete against each other to win thousands of dollars in cash prizes.

The Paris Animal Welfare Society will be participating in this year’s challenge, and we can’t wait to start! Last year we were blown away by the support of our friends and community, and the funds we raised helped almost 2,000 animals that came to our shelter last year. This year, we hope to do even better. Our goal is to raise $20,000 and we know with you help we can do it. Bring on Nov. 1st!

KY GIVES DAY – Wed, April 24th

Welcome to Kentucky Gives DayGiving Tree

Kentucky Gives Day is a 24-hour fundraising event bringing charities and Kentuckians together for a powerful day of action. Our goal today is to raise as much money as possible – giving every Kentuckian the opportunity to support causes they care about and giving charitable nonprofits the opportunity to share their story – all through a single online giving site and in just 24 hours!

PAWS is thrilled to be participating in this event, along with many other charities across the state. In addition to raising awareness for non-profits and their vital role in our communities, KY Gives Day is supporting an entire day on online giving which raises much needed funds.

Please Support PAWS!

We are an open admission animal shelter, which means we take in every animal that comes to our doors regardless of age, breed, temperament, health condition, or reason for being there. We don’t discriminate based on whether an animal is highly adoptable, sweet tempered, or won’t require much care on our part. We are committed to helping every animal we can. Sometimes all that is required is food, love, and shelter while they are here. Other times, it is very difficult and costs a lot of money. Regardless, each animal is treated with compassion while we try our hardest to find them new homes.

Through hard work and the incredible dedication of all the people that make up PAWS, we are able to find most of them homes. Our dog adoption rate is 90%, and our cat adoption rate is 58% – and growing! Rarely do we euthanize an animal for space – and that’s not because we have space in abundance! PAWS optimizes every resource we have, whether that is staff knowledge, volunteers, or funds so that we can continue carrying out our mission:

To provide humane care for homeless pets while diligently looking for loving, responsible homes. To provide treatment for the sick and kindness for the abused. To promote spaying and neutering of owned animals to decrease the number of homeless dogs and cats in our community.

Our donors and volunteers are vital to the success of our mission. We are a 501(c)3 organization, so most of our funds come from generous donors. We are able to make the most of their contributions due to our passionate and devoted volunteers. We value every person’s contribution to all the animals which come through our doors and for which we all care.

If you are interested in helping PAWS during this day of giving, you can donate quickly and easily here,
